Dear Friends of HIS Foundation,

Recently, a rehabilitation team was sent to Bohol, Philippines, to follow up on our postoperative patients. It is gratifying to see our patients are doing well after surgery. Many have been fitted with braces and have started physical therapy. We have also reached an agreement with the local hospital to send another orthopedic team from July 18 to 31, 2026, to provide free orthopedic services.

Before Surgery

Currently, there are still hundreds of thousands of Yazidis living in UN refugee camps in Kurdistan (Northern Iraq). Their hometown, Sinjar, remains in ruins and has not been rebuilt after being destroyed by Islamic militants (ISIS). Many areas are still lacking water and electricity and are unsafe due to ongoing armed conflicts. As a result, refugees are unwilling to return home.

Offices due to financial difficulties and other factors. HIS Foundation recently took over a vacant service center at the request of the refugee management. We have remodeled the center (see attached photos) and will use it for medical services and recreational facilities for children. The first project will be a summer program for elementary school and junior high students. The program will start in mid-June.

HIS Foundation is seeking churches in the United States that are interested in co-hosting a one-week summer children’s program for elementary school students and a youth program for high school students in the summer of 2026 at the refugee camp. For churches interested in participating, please get in touch with me at HISFound@aol.com.

Sincerely,

James Lau, M.D.
