September 2025 Newsletter

Dear Friends of HIS Foundation,

When you receive this newsletter, our orthopedic team will be in Kurdistan providing care through surgeries, physical therapy, and fitting various braces. About half of our patients are children. We especially enjoy serving children because they benefit the most from surgeries, and their recovery and rehabilitation are often quicker and more effective than those of older patients. However, children are usually fearful and find it hard to adjust when they are in the hospital, since it may be their first time there and they do not understand the medical procedures. To reduce their fear, we like to decorate the wards in special ways to meet their needs, and sometimes we create a separate children’s area with recreational activities (see pictures).
